Barangay Gupitan

Classified as a very large barangay, Barangay Gupitan is one of the administrative divisions of Kapalong in Davao Del Norte, Davao Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Gupitan had a population of 17,878. This made it the 2nd largest of 14 barangays in Kapalong by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Gupitan accounted for approximately 22.05% of the total population of Kapalong, which stood at 81,068 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Gupitan changed from 11,134 to 17,878, a shift of +60.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Kapalong. Barangay Gupitan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Kapalong is a municipality comprising 14 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Gupitan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Del Norte, which contains 223 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Gupitan ranks 10th by 2020 population. Davao Del Norte is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Gupitan is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
