Barangay Tara

Barangay Tara is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Mabinay, located in the province of Negros Oriental, in the Central Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tara had a population of 4,770. This made it the 3rd largest of 32 barangays in Mabinay by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Tara accounted for approximately 5.75% of the total population of Mabinay, which stood at 82,953 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Tara moving from 4,741 residents to 4,770 residents, an intercensal change of +0.6%. The trajectory indicates a slowly expanding community. Barangay Tara is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Mabinay is a municipality comprising 32 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Tara, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Oriental, which contains 557 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Tara ranks 69th by 2020 population. Barangay Tara is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
