Barangay Poblacion

Situated in Malalag, Davao Del Sur, Barangay Poblacion is one of 15 barangays that make up the municipality within Davao Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Poblacion had a population of 6,476. This made it the 1st largest of 15 barangays in Malalag by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Poblacion accounted for approximately 16.13% of the total population of Malalag, which stood at 40,158 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 6,208 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 6,476 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +4.3%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Poblacion as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Malalag is a municipality comprising 15 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Poblacion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Del Sur, which contains 414 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Poblacion ranks 24th by 2020 population. Davao Del Sur is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Poblacion is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
