Barangay Matataja

Barangay Matataja is a small barangay in the municipality of Mulanay, located in the province of Quezon, in the CALABARZON region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Matataja had a population of 1,604. This made it the 15th largest of 28 barangays in Mulanay by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Matataja accounted for approximately 2.89% of the total population of Mulanay, which stood at 55,576 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Matataja moving from 1,630 residents to 1,604 residents, an intercensal change of -1.6%. The trajectory indicates a broadly stable community. Barangay Matataja is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Mulanay is a municipality comprising 28 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Matataja, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Quezon, which contains 1,242 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Matataja ranks 404th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
