Barangay Ligaya

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Ligaya is one of the administrative divisions of Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro, MIMAROPA Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Ligaya had a population of 7,480. This made it the 4th largest of 22 barangays in Sablayan by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Ligaya accounted for approximately 8.08% of the total population of Sablayan, which stood at 92,598 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 7,648 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 7,480 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -2.2%, consistent with a contracting settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Ligaya as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Sablayan is a municipality comprising 22 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Ligaya, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Occidental Mindoro, which contains 164 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Ligaya ranks 17th by 2020 population. Occidental Mindoro is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Ligaya is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
