Barangay Janipaan

Situated in San Agustin, Surigao Del Sur, Barangay Janipaan is one of 13 barangays that make up the municipality within Caraga.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Janipaan had a population of 947. This made it the 12th largest of 13 barangays in San Agustin by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Janipaan accounted for approximately 4.14% of the total population of San Agustin, which stood at 22,855 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Janipaan changed from 1,032 to 947, a shift of -8.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in San Agustin. Barangay Janipaan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Agustin is a municipality comprising 13 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Janipaan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Sur, which contains 309 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Janipaan ranks 230th by 2020 population.
