Barangay Bay-ang

Situated in San Jorge, Samar, Barangay Bay-ang is one of 41 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bay-ang had a population of 154. This made it the 36th largest of 41 barangays in San Jorge by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bay-ang accounted for approximately 0.88% of the total population of San Jorge, which stood at 17,579 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 173 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 154 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -11.0%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Bay-ang is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

San Jorge is a municipality comprising 41 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bay-ang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Barangay Bay-ang is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
