Barangay Magbay

Classified as a mid-sized barangay, Barangay Magbay is one of the administrative divisions of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro, MIMAROPA Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Magbay had a population of 4,583. This made it the 12th largest of 39 barangays in San Jose by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Magbay accounted for approximately 2.99% of the total population of San Jose, which stood at 153,267 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 4,299 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 4,583 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +6.6%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Magbay as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

San Jose is a municipality comprising 39 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Magbay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Occidental Mindoro, which contains 164 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Magbay ranks 33rd by 2020 population. Occidental Mindoro is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Magbay is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
