Barangay Limonan forms part of San Miguel, a municipality in Zamboanga Del Sur, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

This made it the 2nd largest of 18 barangays in San Miguel by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Limonan accounted for approximately 10.29% of the total population of San Miguel, which stood at 19,838 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Limonan moving from 1,937 residents to 2,041 residents, an intercensal change of +5.4%. The trajectory indicates a growing community.
