Barangay Bagong Silang

Situated in Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay, Barangay Bagong Silang is one of 29 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bagong Silang had a population of 637. This made it the 26th largest of 29 barangays in Siay by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bagong Silang accounted for approximately 1.57% of the total population of Siay, which stood at 40,585 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bagong Silang changed from 454 to 637, a shift of +40.3% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Siay. Barangay Bagong Silang is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Siay is a municipality comprising 29 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bagong Silang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Sibugay, which contains 389 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bagong Silang ranks 343rd by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
