Barangay Higosoan

Barangay Higosoan is a very small barangay in the municipality of Tomas Oppus, located in the province of Southern Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Higosoan had a population of 345. This made it the 24th largest of 29 barangays in Tomas Oppus by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Higosoan accounted for approximately 2.03% of the total population of Tomas Oppus, which stood at 16,990 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Higosoan moving from 312 residents to 345 residents, an intercensal change of +10.6%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Higosoan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Tomas Oppus is a municipality comprising 29 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Higosoan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Southern Leyte, which contains 500 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Higosoan ranks 428th by 2020 population.
