Barangay Banawang

Barangay Banawang is a small barangay in the municipality of Tunga, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Banawang had a population of 510. This made it the 8th largest of 8 barangays in Tunga by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Banawang accounted for approximately 6.66% of the total population of Tunga, which stood at 7,656 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Banawang changed from 586 to 510, a shift of -13.0% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Tunga. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Banawang as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Tunga is a municipality comprising 8 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Banawang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
