Barangay Ilaya Poblacion

Barangay Ilaya Poblacion is a small barangay in the municipality of Zarraga, located in the province of Iloilo, in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Ilaya Poblacion had a population of 1,769. This made it the 4th largest of 24 barangays in Zarraga by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Ilaya Poblacion accounted for approximately 6.48% of the total population of Zarraga, which stood at 27,305 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Ilaya Poblacion changed from 2,092 to 1,769, a shift of -15.4% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Zarraga. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Ilaya Poblacion as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Zarraga is a municipality comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Ilaya Poblacion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Iloilo, which contains 1,901 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Ilaya Poblacion ranks 341st by 2020 population. Barangay Ilaya Poblacion is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
