Barangay Matagnao

Barangay Matagnao is a small barangay in the municipality of Abuyog, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Matagnao had a population of 693. This made it the 31st largest of 63 barangays in Abuyog by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Matagnao accounted for approximately 1.13% of the total population of Abuyog, which stood at 61,216 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Matagnao moving from 673 residents to 693 residents, an intercensal change of +3.0%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Matagnao is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Abuyog is a municipality comprising 63 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Matagnao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
