Barangay Magcalape

Barangay Magcalape forms part of Asturias, a municipality in Cebu, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Magcalape had a population of 769. This made it the 23rd largest of 27 barangays in Asturias by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Magcalape accounted for approximately 1.39% of the total population of Asturias, which stood at 55,397 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 420 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 769 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +83.1%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Magcalape as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Asturias is a municipality comprising 27 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Magcalape, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Cebu, which contains 1,203 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Magcalape ranks 955th by 2020 population.
