Barangay Malaking Ilog

Situated in Balabac, Palawan, Barangay Malaking Ilog is one of 20 barangays that make up the municipality within MIMAROPA Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Malaking Ilog had a population of 1,086. This made it the 10th largest of 20 barangays in Balabac by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Malaking Ilog accounted for approximately 2.55% of the total population of Balabac, which stood at 42,527 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 900 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,086 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +20.7%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Malaking Ilog as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Balabac is a municipality comprising 20 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Malaking Ilog, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Palawan, which contains 433 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Malaking Ilog ranks 272nd by 2020 population.
