Barangay Calliat

Barangay Calliat is a small barangay in the municipality of Balaoan, located in the province of La Union, in the Ilocos Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Calliat had a population of 1,425. This made it the 9th largest of 36 barangays in Balaoan by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Calliat accounted for approximately 3.53% of the total population of Balaoan, which stood at 40,339 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Calliat changed from 1,369 to 1,425, a shift of +4.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Balaoan. Barangay Calliat is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Balaoan is a municipality comprising 36 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Calliat, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of La Union, which contains 576 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Calliat ranks 213th by 2020 population.
