Barangay Patpata

Situated in Balaoan, La Union, Barangay Patpata is one of 36 barangays that make up the municipality within Ilocos Region.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Patpata had a population of 1,600. This made it the 5th largest of 36 barangays in Balaoan by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Patpata accounted for approximately 3.97% of the total population of Balaoan, which stood at 40,339 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,441 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,600 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +11.0%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Patpata as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Balaoan is a municipality comprising 36 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Patpata, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of La Union, which contains 576 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Patpata ranks 167th by 2020 population.
