Barangay Central (Pob.)

Barangay Central (Pob.) is a small barangay in the municipality of Casiguran, located in the province of Sorsogon, in the Bicol Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Central (Pob.) had a population of 1,387. This made it the 12th largest of 25 barangays in Casiguran by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Central (Pob.) accounted for approximately 3.90% of the total population of Casiguran, which stood at 35,602 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,380 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,387 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +0.5%, consistent with a slowly expanding settlement. Barangay Central (Pob.) is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Casiguran is a municipality comprising 25 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Central (Pob.), including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Sorsogon, which contains 541 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Central (Pob.) ranks 217th by 2020 population. Sorsogon is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Central (Pob.) is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
