Barangay D. Mercader

Barangay D. Mercader is a small barangay in the municipality of Catubig, located in the province of Northern Samar, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay D. Mercader had a population of 576. This made it the 20th largest of 47 barangays in Catubig by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay D. Mercader accounted for approximately 1.79% of the total population of Catubig, which stood at 32,174 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 625 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 576 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -7.8%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay D. Mercader is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Catubig is a municipality comprising 47 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay D. Mercader, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Northern Samar, which contains 569 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay D. Mercader ranks 381st by 2020 population.
