Barangay Caliling

Situated in Cauayan, Negros Occidental, Barangay Caliling is one of 25 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Caliling had a population of 5,941. This made it the 6th largest of 25 barangays in Cauayan by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Caliling accounted for approximately 5.48% of the total population of Cauayan, which stood at 108,480 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 5,527 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 5,941 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +7.5%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Caliling is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Cauayan is a municipality comprising 25 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Caliling, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Negros Occidental, which contains 662 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Caliling ranks 141st by 2020 population. Barangay Caliling is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
