Barangay Ba-ao

Situated in City of Dapitan, Zamboanga Del Norte, Barangay Ba-ao is one of 50 barangays that make up the city within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Ba-ao had a population of 955. This made it the 40th largest of 50 barangays in City of Dapitan by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Ba-ao accounted for approximately 1.12% of the total population of City of Dapitan, which stood at 85,202 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Ba-ao changed from 849 to 955, a shift of +12.5% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in City of Dapitan. Barangay Ba-ao is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

City of Dapitan is a city comprising 50 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Ba-ao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Norte, which contains 691 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Ba-ao ranks 412th by 2020 population. Zamboanga Del Norte is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Ba-ao is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
