Barangay Molugan

Situated in City of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, Barangay Molugan is one of 15 barangays that make up the city within Northern Mindanao.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Molugan had a population of 12,843. This made it the 1st largest of 15 barangays in City of El Salvador by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Molugan accounted for approximately 21.85% of the total population of City of El Salvador, which stood at 58,771 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 10,547 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 12,843 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +21.8%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Molugan is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of El Salvador is a city comprising 15 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Molugan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Misamis Oriental, which contains 504 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Molugan ranks 4th by 2020 population. Misamis Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

The barangay's legislative and executive affairs are handled by a Punong Barangay and the Sangguniang Barangay, elected nationwide during the Barangay and SK Elections. The next BSKE is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, following the synchronized election schedule set by COMELEC Resolution No. 11191.
