Barangay Japitan

Situated in City of Escalante, Negros Occidental, Barangay Japitan is one of 21 barangays that make up the city within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Japitan had a population of 2,387. This made it the 15th largest of 21 barangays in City of Escalante by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Japitan accounted for approximately 2.48% of the total population of City of Escalante, which stood at 96,159 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Japitan moving from 2,689 residents to 2,387 residents, an intercensal change of -11.2%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Japitan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
