Barangay Lunao

Barangay Lunao is a large barangay in the City of Gingoog, located in the province of Misamis Oriental, in the Northern Mindanao region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Lunao had a population of 8,339. This made it the 1st largest of 79 barangays in City of Gingoog by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Lunao accounted for approximately 6.10% of the total population of City of Gingoog, which stood at 136,698 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Lunao moving from 7,496 residents to 8,339 residents, an intercensal change of +11.2%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Lunao is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Gingoog is a city comprising 79 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Lunao, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Misamis Oriental, which contains 504 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Lunao ranks 16th by 2020 population. Misamis Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Lunao is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
