Barangay Tagas

Barangay Tagas is a mid-sized barangay in the City of Tabaco, located in the province of Albay, in the Bicol Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Tagas had a population of 2,233. This made it the 26th largest of 47 barangays in City of Tabaco by population, placing it in the middle tier of the city. Residents of Barangay Tagas accounted for approximately 1.58% of the total population of City of Tabaco, which stood at 140,961 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Tagas moving from 2,431 residents to 2,233 residents, an intercensal change of -8.1%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Tagas is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

City of Tabaco is a city comprising 47 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Tagas, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Albay, which contains 720 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Tagas ranks 196th by 2020 population. Like every Philippine barangay, Barangay Tagas is led by an elected Punong Barangay (barangay captain) supported by seven Sangguniang Barangay members (kagawads), an SK Chairperson, a Barangay Secretary, and a Barangay Treasurer. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
