Barangay Bagakay

Situated in Claver, Surigao Del Norte, Barangay Bagakay is one of 14 barangays that make up the municipality within Caraga.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Bagakay had a population of 2,118. This made it the 9th largest of 14 barangays in Claver by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bagakay accounted for approximately 5.88% of the total population of Claver, which stood at 36,033 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bagakay changed from 2,331 to 2,118, a shift of -9.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Claver. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Bagakay as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Claver is a municipality comprising 14 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bagakay, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Surigao Del Norte, which contains 335 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Bagakay ranks 61st by 2020 population. Surigao Del Norte is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Bagakay is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
