Barangay Virayan

Classified as a very small barangay, Barangay Virayan is one of the administrative divisions of Concepcion in Misamis Occidental, Northern Mindanao, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Virayan had a population of 435. This made it the 11th largest of 18 barangays in Concepcion by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Virayan accounted for approximately 4.67% of the total population of Concepcion, which stood at 9,324 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Virayan changed from 466 to 435, a shift of -6.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Concepcion. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Virayan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Concepcion is a municipality comprising 18 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Virayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Misamis Occidental, which contains 490 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Virayan ranks 419th by 2020 population. Misamis Occidental is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Virayan is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
