Barangay Katipunan

Barangay Katipunan is a small barangay in the municipality of Del Carmen, located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Katipunan had a population of 549. This made it the 16th largest of 20 barangays in Del Carmen by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Katipunan accounted for approximately 2.73% of the total population of Del Carmen, which stood at 20,127 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Katipunan moving from 449 residents to 549 residents, an intercensal change of +22.3%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Katipunan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Del Carmen is a municipality comprising 20 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Katipunan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Barangay Katipunan is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
