This made it the 40th largest of 54 barangays in Guinayangan by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cabong Sur accounted for approximately 0.78% of the total population of Guinayangan, which stood at 44,045 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 371 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 345 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -7.0%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Cabong Sur is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Guinayangan is a municipality comprising 54 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Cabong Sur, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
