Barangay Balongating

Situated in Guipos, Zamboanga Del Sur, Barangay Balongating is one of 17 barangays that make up the municipality within Zamboanga Peninsula.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Balongating had a population of 2,160. This made it the 2nd largest of 17 barangays in Guipos by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Balongating accounted for approximately 9.94% of the total population of Guipos, which stood at 21,738 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Balongating changed from 2,065 to 2,160, a shift of +4.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Guipos. Barangay Balongating is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Guipos is a municipality comprising 17 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Balongating, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Zamboanga Del Sur, which contains 779 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Balongating ranks 99th by 2020 population.
