Barangay Sion

Situated in Island Garden City of Samal, Davao Del Norte, Barangay Sion is one of 46 barangays that make up the city within Davao Region.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Sion had a population of 775. This made it the 46th largest of 46 barangays in Island Garden City of Samal by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the city. Residents of Barangay Sion accounted for approximately 0.66% of the total population of Island Garden City of Samal, which stood at 116,771 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 690 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 775 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +12.3%, consistent with a growing settlement. Barangay Sion is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Island Garden City of Samal is a city comprising 46 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Sion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Del Norte, which contains 223 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Sion ranks 220th by 2020 population. The next Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) are scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, with officials serving four-year terms under Republic Act No. 12232.
