Barangay Cancayang

Barangay Cancayang is a small barangay in the municipality of Javier, located in the province of Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Cancayang had a population of 682. This made it the 20th largest of 28 barangays in Javier by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Cancayang accounted for approximately 2.56% of the total population of Javier, which stood at 26,658 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Cancayang moving from 782 residents to 682 residents, an intercensal change of -12.8%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Cancayang is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Javier is a municipality comprising 28 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Cancayang, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
