Barangay San Jose

Barangay San Jose is a very small barangay in the municipality of Las Navas, located in the province of Northern Samar, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay San Jose had a population of 256. This made it the 50th largest of 53 barangays in Las Navas by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Jose accounted for approximately 0.70% of the total population of Las Navas, which stood at 36,621 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay San Jose changed from 288 to 256, a shift of -11.1% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Las Navas. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay San Jose as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Las Navas is a municipality comprising 53 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Jose, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Northern Samar, which contains 569 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Jose ranks 539th by 2020 population. Northern Samar is classified as a 2nd by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay San Jose is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
