Barangay Himayangan

Barangay Himayangan is a mid-sized barangay in the municipality of Liloan, located in the province of Southern Leyte, in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Himayangan had a population of 2,276. This made it the 3rd largest of 24 barangays in Liloan by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Himayangan accounted for approximately 9.18% of the total population of Liloan, which stood at 24,800 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Himayangan moving from 2,009 residents to 2,276 residents, an intercensal change of +13.3%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Himayangan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Liloan is a municipality comprising 24 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Himayangan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Southern Leyte, which contains 500 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Himayangan ranks 15th by 2020 population. Barangay Himayangan is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
