Situated in Lingig, Surigao Del Sur, Barangay Palo Alto is one of 18 barangays that make up the municipality within Caraga.

This made it the 13th largest of 18 barangays in Lingig by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Palo Alto changed from 839 to 945, a shift of +12.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with growing populations in Lingig.
