Barangay San Matias

Barangay San Matias is a small barangay in the municipality of Lubao, located in the province of Pampanga, in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay San Matias had a population of 1,369. This made it the 41st largest of 44 barangays in Lubao by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay San Matias accounted for approximately 0.79% of the total population of Lubao, which stood at 173,502 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,259 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,369 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +8.7%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay San Matias as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Lubao is a municipality comprising 44 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay San Matias, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Pampanga, which contains 538 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay San Matias ranks 454th by 2020 population. Pampanga is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay San Matias is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
