Barangay Motag

Situated in Malay, Aklan, Barangay Motag is one of 17 barangays that make up the municipality within Western Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Motag had a population of 1,108. This made it the 12th largest of 17 barangays in Malay by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Motag accounted for approximately 1.84% of the total population of Malay, which stood at 60,077 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 903 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,108 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +22.7%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Motag as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Malay is a municipality comprising 17 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Motag, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Aklan, which contains 327 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Motag ranks 213th by 2020 population.
