Barangay Central (Pob.)

Barangay Central (Pob.) is a large barangay in the municipality of Manay, located in the province of Davao Oriental, in the Davao Region region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Central (Pob.) had a population of 9,676. This made it the 1st largest of 17 barangays in Manay by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Central (Pob.) accounted for approximately 24.45% of the total population of Manay, which stood at 39,572 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Central (Pob.) changed from 10,265 to 9,676, a shift of -5.7% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Manay. Barangay Central (Pob.) is officially classified as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Manay is a municipality comprising 17 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Central (Pob.), including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Davao Oriental, which contains 183 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Central (Pob.) ranks 7th by 2020 population. Davao Oriental is classified as a 1st by the Bureau of Local Government Finance, a category that reflects the province's annual regular income.

Barangay Central (Pob.) is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
