Barangay Bayan

Situated in Marihatag, Surigao Del Sur, Barangay Bayan is one of 12 barangays that make up the municipality within Caraga.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Bayan had a population of 2,241. This made it the 3rd largest of 12 barangays in Marihatag by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bayan accounted for approximately 11.53% of the total population of Marihatag, which stood at 19,441 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Bayan moving from 2,180 residents to 2,241 residents, an intercensal change of +2.8%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. Barangay Bayan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Marihatag is a municipality comprising 12 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bayan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
