Barangay Mahaba

Barangay Mahaba is a small barangay in the municipality of Marihatag, located in the province of Surigao Del Sur, in the Caraga region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Mahaba had a population of 1,167. This made it the 7th largest of 12 barangays in Marihatag by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Mahaba accounted for approximately 6.00% of the total population of Marihatag, which stood at 19,441 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Mahaba moving from 1,415 residents to 1,167 residents, an intercensal change of -17.5%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. Barangay Mahaba is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Marihatag is a municipality comprising 12 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Mahaba, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
