Barangay Bagong Lipunan

Situated in Matalom, Leyte, Barangay Bagong Lipunan is one of 30 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Bagong Lipunan had a population of 815. This made it the 20th largest of 30 barangays in Matalom by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Bagong Lipunan accounted for approximately 2.50% of the total population of Matalom, which stood at 32,586 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Bagong Lipunan changed from 845 to 815, a shift of -3.6% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Matalom. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Bagong Lipunan as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Matalom is a municipality comprising 30 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Bagong Lipunan, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
