Barangay Santa Monica

Barangay Santa Monica forms part of Oras, a municipality in Eastern Samar, and is classified as a small barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Santa Monica had a population of 1,507. This made it the 6th largest of 42 barangays in Oras by population, placing it in the upper half of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Santa Monica accounted for approximately 4.02% of the total population of Oras, which stood at 37,451 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 1,437 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 1,507 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +4.9%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Santa Monica as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Oras is a municipality comprising 42 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Santa Monica, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Eastern Samar, which contains 597 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Santa Monica ranks 72nd by 2020 population.
