Barangay Upper Baguer

Barangay Upper Baguer forms part of Pigkawayan, a municipality in Cotabato, and is classified as a mid-sized barangay.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Upper Baguer had a population of 3,631. This made it the 1st largest of 40 barangays in Pigkawayan by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Upper Baguer accounted for approximately 5.02% of the total population of Pigkawayan, which stood at 72,371 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 2,670 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 3,631 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of +36.0%, consistent with a growing settlement. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Upper Baguer as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Pigkawayan is a municipality comprising 40 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Upper Baguer, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Cotabato, which contains 543 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Upper Baguer ranks 85th by 2020 population. Barangay Upper Baguer is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
