Situated in Pilar, Sorsogon, Barangay Abucay is one of 49 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

This made it the 4th largest of 49 barangays in Pilar by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Abucay accounted for approximately 3.72% of the total population of Pilar, which stood at 75,793 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Abucay moving from 2,952 residents to 2,820 residents, an intercensal change of -4.5%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community.
