Situated in Pilar, Sorsogon, Barangay Catamlangan is one of 49 barangays that make up the municipality within Bicol Region.

According to the 2020 Philippine census, Barangay Catamlangan had a population of 1,132. This made it the 31st largest of 49 barangays in Pilar by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Catamlangan accounted for approximately 1.49% of the total population of Pilar, which stood at 75,793 in the same census year.

Between the 2015 and 2020 censuses, the population of Barangay Catamlangan changed from 1,220 to 1,132, a shift of -7.2% over the five-year period. This places the barangay among those with contracting populations in Pilar. Barangay Catamlangan is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
