Barangay Butong

Situated in Pinamungajan, Cebu, Barangay Butong is one of 26 barangays that make up the municipality within Central Visayas.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Butong had a population of 2,394. This made it the 12th largest of 26 barangays in Pinamungajan by population, placing it in the middle tier of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Butong accounted for approximately 3.19% of the total population of Pinamungajan, which stood at 75,131 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Butong moving from 2,035 residents to 2,394 residents, an intercensal change of +17.6%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Butong as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Pinamungajan is a municipality comprising 26 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Butong, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Cebu, which contains 1,203 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Butong ranks 446th by 2020 population.
