Barangay Wakat

Barangay Wakat is a very small barangay in the municipality of Ramon Magsaysay, located in the province of Zamboanga Del Sur, in the Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Wakat had a population of 368. This made it the 27th largest of 27 barangays in Ramon Magsaysay by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Wakat accounted for approximately 1.35% of the total population of Ramon Magsaysay, which stood at 27,280 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Wakat moving from 380 residents to 368 residents, an intercensal change of -3.2%. The trajectory indicates a contracting community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Wakat as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.

Ramon Magsaysay is a municipality comprising 27 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Wakat, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration.
