Barangay Poblacion

Classified as a large barangay, Barangay Poblacion is one of the administrative divisions of Rapu-Rapu in Albay, Bicol Region, Philippines.

According to the 2020 Census of Population and Housing conducted by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Barangay Poblacion had a population of 6,015. This made it the 1st largest of 34 barangays in Rapu-Rapu by population, placing it among the most populous barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Poblacion accounted for approximately 16.64% of the total population of Rapu-Rapu, which stood at 36,151 in the same census year.

Census comparisons between 2015 and 2020 show Barangay Poblacion moving from 5,840 residents to 6,015 residents, an intercensal change of +3.0%. The trajectory indicates a growing community. The Philippine Statistics Authority classifies Barangay Poblacion as urban, reflecting the density and built-up character of the area.

Rapu-Rapu is a municipality comprising 34 barangays, and serves as the governing unit directly responsible for local services in Barangay Poblacion, including public health, sanitation, peace and order, and civil registration. Within the wider province of Albay, which contains 720 barangays across its component cities and municipalities, Barangay Poblacion ranks 17th by 2020 population. Barangay Poblacion is governed by an elected Sangguniang Barangay composed of a Punong Barangay and seven kagawads, with the Sangguniang Kabataan representing the youth. The next BSKE, set for Monday, November 2, 2026, will elect officials to four-year terms as provided under Republic Act No. 12232.
