Situated in San Jorge, Samar, Barangay Gayondato is one of 41 barangays that make up the municipality within Eastern Visayas.

This made it the 32nd largest of 41 barangays in San Jorge by population, placing it among the smaller barangays of the municipality. Residents of Barangay Gayondato accounted for approximately 1.41% of the total population of San Jorge, which stood at 17,579 in the same census year.

The barangay recorded 284 residents in the 2015 intercensal count and 248 residents in the 2020 Census — a net change of -12.7%, consistent with a contracting settlement. Barangay Gayondato is officially classified as rural, a designation applied to barangays with lower population density and predominantly non-built-up land use.
